Theo, from rebel to hero!

At FC Twente Theo Janssen has grown into one of the best, if not the best, midfielder in the Dutch Eredivisie. He always belongs to the starting line of the team from Enschede unless he is not able to play because of injury. Yet there are several negative things in the news and media about this player.

At Vitesse Janssen was a regular topic of conversation, usually not in a positive way. Often he came in the news negatively, because of his difficult behaviour in the team.

Remarkable was the message that FC Twente wanted the midfielder. It came to a transfer.

In a short period Janssen became a strong value in the success team from Enschede. The highlight so far is, of course, the championship of season 2009/2010. Theo Janssen played a huge part in it.

Suddenly all kinds of rumours appear. Some are that some people within the club from Enschede aren't pleased with the behaviour of Theo Janssen. He would act unprofessionally because he smokes cigarettes and drinks beer on a regular basis. Mostly they name the example of Theo who drank a beer on the way back from Breda to Enschede. And let's be fair, it wasn't smart because of the car accident not long ago.

Some people, like Johan Derksen, say that Janssen's teammates are also getting tired of his behaviour.

Despite all the negativity, I think Janssen is still a great player. He really means a lot for FC Twente at the moment. He is capable of deciding matches individually and he is a real leader, especially for the young players who will be coming next season. Personally, I hope Janssen will also play for Twente next season. Allthough I also think he deserves a beautiful transfer to a club even better than Twente, if that is possible. He made a lot of progress and his behaviour is a lot better. I think it is because of the way McClaren and Preudhomme treated him. He has became a hero instead of a rebel, but people still see him as the rebel he was.

Apparently Twente will let him go for 3 million. I would certainly give him a contract if I were the coach of an average English club.

But if Janssen leaves Twente, we will always have Jansen.
