Twitter is here to stay on the internet. This social media platform gains more and more enthusiastic users. It's an easy way to stay in touch with your family, friends and colleagues. But you can find interesting tweets from celebrities too. Who is really worth following? A lot of celebrities only use Twitter to do announcements. Or they joined Twitter but never write something. Boring! A series of articles about fun tweeps. In this one: sportsmen.
A few suggestions for you to add to your list "following":
Sportsmen
@tonyhawk
Tony Hawk is one of the biggest heroes in sports on Twitter, having 2.5 million followers. Tony is a famous pro-skater. He likes to tweet. In the beginning of 2009 he used Twitter to organize an expedition for his followers. On Twitter he announced that he hid a few skateboard decks with his signature on it in several cities of the United States of America. After giving the green light he gave his followers hints about the locations of the decks. In a few days time he doubled his number of followers. Some recent tweets:
- "Customs at LAX: Your name looks familiar. Are you that oldest skateboarder guy?"
- "To those asking: my profile photo is a picture of me in my back alley taken by my sister Lenore in 1978."
@sneijder101010
This is the account of the Dutch soccer player Wesley Sneijder. Over 100,000 people follow Wesley on Twitter. He speaks to them in Dutch and English. In the beginning of May 2011 Wesley was very occupied with his number of followers: "Hi everyone, I am really close to the 100,000 followers! Enjoy the evening.. Miss my beautiful wife @YolantheCabau 3 more weeks to go". Following Wesley means you are also up to date about Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen, a Dutch host, actress and model. No need to buy tabloids any longer!
@andy_murray
Andy Murray is a man with humour. This tennis player from Scotland has 380,000 followers who probably often have smiles on their faces when reading his tweets:
- "There's just been a powercut in the restaurant. Probably a good thing so we don't need to see what we are eating."
- "I think the 5 minute warm up is a pointless rule anyway. Imagine boxers trading a few blows before the bell!"
